One of the most well-liked tourist spots in the country is the Mall of America. The Mall of America offers something for everyone to enjoy with more than 520 stores, 50 restaurants, an amusement park, miniature golf courses, an aquarium, and so much more.
The Mall of America, the largest shopping centre in the US, is situated in Bloomington, Minnesota, and has a total floor space of approximately 5 million square feet. The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is within a short distance from this one-of-a-kind shopping and entertainment complex.
The Mall of America, which has been operating since 1992, turns 30 this year and is still flourishing and expanding. Every year, the mall receives about 40 million visitors.
There are many activities at the Mall of America to keep you entertained, whether you’re looking for a fun day out with your family or some retail therapy! The activities listed below will make your trip to the mall extraordinary.
1. Participate In Interactive Art
At the Mall of America’s main entrance, there is a sizable artwork called “Kaleidoscope” that you can see if you look up. Over 300 butterflies of various sizes are suspended from the atrium skylight around a magnificent 30-foot monarch butterfly. These butterflies are created using recycled waste products including plastic bags, forks, and straws. Christopher Lutter-art Gardella’s installation examines eco-awareness and resourcefulness while educating viewers about the plight of the monarch butterfly.
A rope that hangs down to the floor is attached to the enormous butterfly in the centre. The rope is meant to be pulled by visitors to move the butterfly’s wings. Making the butterfly’s wings appear to be flying is fun for both adults and kids.
2. Experience the Nickelodeon Universe roller coaster
The biggest indoor theme park in the country, Nickelodeon Universe, includes 27 rides for guests of all ages. Many of the coasters have Nickelodeon themes, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shell Shock and SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge. This indoor theme park even has a Ferris wheel and roller coasters. The thrilling Orange Streak roller coaster and the dizzying Log Chute are both crowd favourites. The swings were my favourite ride.
3. FlyOver America
FlyOver America is an exhilarating and breathtaking attraction that lets you virtually fly over some of the most important American monuments. The FlyOver can accommodate 62 passengers at once, and the gigantic round screen measures 60 feet wide by 40 feet high. It is the longest ride of its kind at 10 minutes. There are instances when FlyOver America and Fly Hawaii are switched between.
Daily flights depart from the Nickelodeon Universe, although standard admission passes do not cover them. Although there is an additional fee, FlyOver America is so much fun that you should be sure you purchase a ticket.
4. Stand On Home Plate
The Minnesota Twins baseball team played at Metropolitan Stadium, which was demolished to make way for the mall, from 1961 to 1981. In the theme park, you can step on the bronze plaque commemorating the home run record at Metropolitan Stadium. The Log Chute offers another glimpse of the site’s baseball heritage. This one, which resembles an arbitrary chair hanging from the wall, required some searching on my part. It designates the spot in Old Met Stadium where Minnesota Twin Harmon Killebrew hit the stadium’s longest home run. He struck the ball 520 feet away from the house.
5. Attend Events And Performances
The mall conducts free events, including celebrity meet-and-greets, fashion exhibitions, and musical performances. This year, there are more than 400 events planned. The Mall of America event calendar lists all of its upcoming events.
6. Enjoy A Crayola Colorful Experience
Children have the option of making their crayons. When students go to the Crayola Experience, they can be the star of a colouring page and take part in several interactive activities. Technology, chemistry, and colour work together to create a vibrant trip for the mind.
7. Reminisce Football Highlights On The 50-Yard Line
The floor of the amusement park has a piece of the Metropolitan Stadium’s 50-yard line marker embedded in it. On December 28, 1975, during a game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Dallas Cowboys, Roger Staubach threw Drew Pearson the game-winning touchdown “Hail Mary Pass” that sealed the victory.
8. Spend Time at M&M’s Mall of America.
The newly opened M&M’s Mall of America features everything M&M. You can become one of the M&M’s characters while learning everything there is to know about the candy. The entire family will have a fun and interesting time there.
9. Play Mini Golf
You can play mini-golf on two different courses. The 18-hole miniature golf course at Moose Mountain Adventure Golf is completely accessible to visitors. Another 18-hole miniature golf course, the Rock of Ages Black Light Course, features music from the 1950s to the present.
10. Visit An Escape Room
Are you prepared for a challenging, engrossing adventure? You have one hour to decipher the codes, work out the riddles, find the clues, and finish the job in the Escape Room.
